With the kids staying on the caravan site with grandparents, I managed to find us a lovely AirBnB place to stay within walking distance. It was delightful and pretty much like a 5-star hotel, with a full English breakfast each morning! We had our own living room with TV etc. bedroom and bathroom, all within the owners house. I would highly recommend Low Field farm if you are looking for something – Lydia, our host was lovely.
Day 1 – Quarry walk
Arriving just after lunch on day one we decided to head out for a little walk. Behind the caravan site there is a disused quarry and we went on a short walk to find it. It certainly left a large whole in the landscape but I must admit it is well hidden.
On the way back we called in on the ducks on the nearby duck pond and fed them some seed. There was rather a lot and although not quite ready to feed out of your hand there were certainly very friendly.
After our walk we enjoyed a lovely BBQ with the rain just about holding off!
Day 2 – Bolton Abbey
Breakfast was delicious first thing with sausages, made from pigs on the farm, bacon, fried eggs with toast and coffee. There was also a lovely selection of fresh fruit and cereals if you wanted.
We decided on a trip to Bolton Abbey on day 2. We arrived mid morning with a picnic. The car park was £10, but that got you into all of the grounds, a walk around the Abbey itself and everything there is. Therefore it was pretty good value all in all.
We decided on a shortish walk which would take us to the stepping stones area, where you can walk across the river stepping across the stones. We all made it across without getting wet, although I had a wobble near the end!
Day 3 – Skipton Castle & swimming
I started the day with a bike ride as I wanted to get out and about. With the rain threatening I managed an 8 mile circle of the local area going through Grassington and Threshfield.
With the weather looking a little dodgy (although it brightened up later in the day) we decided on a visit to Skipton castle. We walked around the castle which is an interesting place to visit and the boys loved looking through all the little rooms etc.
After that we killed an hour before swimming by going on the castle woods walk which is a nice 3 mile walk through the woods.
Even though we were all pretty tired we took the boys swimming at Craven swimming pool. It was a lovely pool and they burnt off a bit more energy.
That was that then really. The final day was get up, pack up and after breakfast head back over to Lancashire. A lovely few days away in a beautiful part of the country.
Apologies for the terrible music on this video 🙂
