This weekend just gone was the no annual WordCamp London weekend, were members of the UK and world-wide WordPress community gets together to discuss all things WordPress.
This event was another resounding success thanks for a number of people, but most notably the excellent organisation of the event from the WordCamp London organising team. Thanks to them and all the speakers and volunteers for making it a great weekend.
Catching up with colleagues
Not only is it a chance to catchup with friends in the WordPress community, all our team from Highrise Digital attend WordCamp London each year and therefore it is valuable time to catchup with the team in person.
We had a lovely Friday evening, first in the Wetherspoons near Kings Cross station, chatting away about all things life and work, before joining the rest of the WordCamp community for a Friday night social just down the road.
Speaking about Syndicating content with WordPress
This year, as I often do, I was speaking on the Saturday afternoon. It was a talk that I have wanted to give for a while, but a talk that I found one of the hardest to prepare for and deliver.
The topic was based on work I did for one of our latest client – TOMD (also known as The Outsourced Marketing Department). We built a system to sending content between WordPress sites.
I think the reason it was one of the hardest talks to deliver is because it was quite a technical subject and I only had 30 minutes to deliver the talk. The challenge was giving enough information to be useful without getting too complicated.
The talk went well and I had some good feedback from members of the audience as well as some potential leads from people looking for us to deliver something similar for them.
Sponsoring
We decided to sponsor the WordCamp this year again as we have been working on a little WordPress game called WapWho?. Sponsoring meant we could promote the game and encourage people to play.

We also had some table space to put some information about us, our services and our team. I think it looked really good and Keith did an excellent job on getting the materials together in a short amount of time.
Why not give the game a go below. You can also embed it on your blog if you like!

Some excellent talks
Across the weekend there was some excellent talks taking place. I attended as many as I could, whilst still leaving time to chat to people and the sponsors.
My two favourite talks were:
- 5 steps to a faster website and improve Google rankings from Sabrina Zeidan
- I tried writing some code… you won’t believe what happened next! from Ross Wintle
Lots of fun!
Some more photos from the event below – it was great fun and I’m already looking forward to next years event. Plenty more WordCamps before that though to look forward to.
