A Barmouth Bay beach holiday

Well, to be honest although a beach is involved it was not what you would call a beach holiday. However, it was a terrific week away with family, in a nice Lodge with a lovely hot tub!

We have a few ventures out and about whilst there because the weather was not particularly great.

The National Slate Museum in Llanberis

The originally wanted to go to the slate caverns, however when we got there the next tour would have meant a 2.5 hour wait which was not ideal.

Therefore we decided to visit the National Slate Museum instead. It was free to enter and an excellent visit learning about how the slate mines were run.

There were a few demonstrations during the day. Splitting the slate we missed, but we did catch a black smith making some nice key rings for sale in the gift shop. Amazing to see such skilled people working.

Harlech Castle

We have driven past this on a number of occasions when visiting previously and always thought it would be a good visit. We were right and had a lovely hour or so walking around the castle grounds, up the towers and along the narrow passage ways – the boys loved it!

The Ysgethin Inn

We had a couple of meals back at the lodge – a BBQ on the first night and then some lovely chicken soup another time.

However, we did visit the local pub a couple of times for 2 delicious meals. I can highly recommend the Ysgethin Inn in Talybont for a good meal.

A run along the beach

Whilst there I managed a couple of runs along the beach. It was tough going as it was pretty windy and running back into the wind was hard going.
