I was speaking about how we, at Highrise Digital transitioned to a block-based editor in WordPress before the new, soon to be released Gutenberg editor was a thing in WordPress.
The day started with some heavy storms (I think it was called store Dianne – although I may be wrong on that one!) and it meant some slight delays in lots of trains around the UK.

The weekend always starts early on a Friday morning. In fact it could start on a Thursday as there is a contributor day (where you can help contribute to the open source WordPress project) on the Friday. However this would mean just too long away from the family.

Being a remote company, although we chat and see each other everyday we rarely get the chance to actually meet in person and spend time with each other. As we have grown as a company we have grown to realise that this time together is very important.
To rectify this we rented an AirBnB flat near St. Katherine’s dock in London, not too far away from Tower Bridge. The flat/apartment was amazing with some stunning views over the river Thames. It was two bedroom with a third bed located on a mezzanine floor above the main living space – that was designated my bed and it was pretty comfy. I slept with the stars out of the window to my side which was really nice.

This weekend was the annual WordCamp London conference in the capital. Every year our community of open source software developers, users, designers and everyone else involved with WordPress gather in the capital in order to discuss everything WordPress related. It is always a brilliant weekend and this weekend was no exception.

This morning I embarked on a trip to London to see my colleague Keith and attend the WordPress London meet up event. Waking up in the morning was the news that #stormdoris was hitting most parts of the United Kingdom, but on checking the rail services for my journey – all “appeared” well.
After walking the kids to school in the pouring rain it was time to head to the station to catch the train to Preston. This part of the journey went according to plan. In fact it went better than according to plan as I was able to jump on an earlier train.

I travelled down to London on the train to meet-up with Keith for the WordPress BigWP meet-up help at the stunning News UK building near Tower bridge. Got some great photos of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London on the way.
The morning after we had a great breakfast at the Breakfast Club restaurant after meeting one of our clients.
