A Weekend at WordCamp Bristol

This weekend saw the next in a series of conferences about WordPress (the software I use to build websites with) happening in Bristol. This weekend was the very first WordCamp Bristol and was an opportunity to visit a city which I have not been to before.

Having booked a lovely looking AirBnB house this time I decided to have a little road trip, picking up a friend and fellow WordPress enthusiast Jonny. The journey down to Birmingham to collect Jonny and also onward to Bristol was wonderful with no traffic issues. We have one stop near to Bristol to get some lunch.

WordPress is a CMS, not a CMS

WordPress allows users to manage their content through the WordPress admin screens. This means users can add, edit and delete content and media and manage their sites without the need to ask developers for every change.

WordPress is a content management system, but all too often it can end up becoming a content mismanagement system when editing and managing the site is just too difficult.

A Lovely Thursday

Today was a Thursday like any other day, but it turned out to be a really interesting day and a very enjoyable one. The day had three bike rides, a run, a trip to the park and a great day at work. Nothing special but worth sharing some photos of.

My First New Bike in 24 Years

Today I bought myself a bike which coincided with James getting his next bike as he had outgrown his smaller bike passed up from his brother. I am certainly looking forward to more adventure cycle rides like the one we had after tea this evening!

Easter Holiday in Majorca

Today was our get away for the Easter break to the sunny Spanish Island of Majorca. We had an early start in order to at the airport for 0600 which meant a long day, which as I type is coming to an end. We had a fantastic week in the sun, not too hot and certainly not too cold. In fact we will be going back again very soon.

Wirral Country Park

For the first part of the Easter break we decided to spend it with Grand Parents in the Caravan at Wirral Country Park caravan site. Having been before we knew it would be a lovely place to spend a few days with the children, with some interesting places to visit and of course lots to do on site for the kids.

A Trip to WordCamp London 2017

This weekend was the annual WordCamp London conference in the capital. Every year our community of open source software developers, users, designers and everyone else involved with WordPress gather in the capital in order to discuss everything WordPress related. It is always a brilliant weekend and this weekend was no exception.

The Abandoned Trip to London

This morning I embarked on a trip to London to see my colleague Keith and attend the WordPress London meet up event. Waking up in the morning was the news that #stormdoris was hitting most parts of the United Kingdom, but on checking the rail services for my journey – all “appeared” well.

After walking the kids to school in the pouring rain it was time to head to the station to catch the train to Preston. This part of the journey went according to plan. In fact it went better than according to plan as I was able to jump on an earlier train.

A Walk Around Hesketh Park

With it being the half term holiday I took some time off work for a short stroll around the park with the Kids! On the way we encountered some massive swans (the biggest I have ever seen) and some rather amusing Gym equipment!

Back to Blogging

I used to have a blog, starting way back in 2007 but to be honest it didn’t last very long. However I did enjoy blogging.

Over the course of the past few months I have been really thinking about my use of the internet, particular social media and what I am (or am not) using it for. One of the things that I concluded was that it is nice to be able to look back at your life over the years – the photos you have taken, the places you have been and the people you have met.

Therefore I am starting up this blog with that being the aim. The document some of things that I get up to. I want to come back to this in 10 years time and see the memories. I wonder if I will be able to?
